Peter and Joy Beacham - Baby Beef producer Pinjarrah WA
Peter and Joy Beacham herd consists of Angus/Friesian and Simmental/Friesian cross cows. These first cross renown baby beef producers, have traditionally been mated to Hereford bulls and Murray Grey bulls.
Some of Peters heifers were penalised due to being over fat. This led Peter to the idea to use a Blonde bull over his first cross cows with the aim of increasing his turn off weights and breeding leaner and better-muscled calves. Peter purchased his first Blonde bull in 2003 and has since purchased a few more.
Peter sold his babies via Midland saleyards in WA. The Butchers on that day recognised the exceptional quality of these Blonde cross calves. With the subsequent bidding competition, this pen of Blonde cross babies weighed 410kg and made 211c/kg selling for an astounding $865 per head. Using a Blondes sire increased Peters profit by an extra $191 per head compared to calves sired by his Murray Grey bull.
A very pleased Peter commented that the Blonde cross calves had a good body shape with excellent butt profiles. The temperament of the bulls and their progeny is amongst the best I have seen, said Peter.
